Types of Volunteers
Volunteers help grant wishes in many ways and are matched to positions based on ability, interest, and position availability. Please consider your skills, goals, and motivation for volunteering when deciding which of these positions best suits your interests.
Wish Volunteers
Volunteers are an integral part of fulfilling wishes. As a member of a wish team, you will meet with the family, determine the wish and act as a liaison between the Foundation staff and the wish family during the wish process.
Event and Fund Raiser Volunteers
Volunteers also help at special events such as golf tournaments, haunted houses and dances. Fund raising volunteers work with the Make-A-Wish® Development staff to implement fund-raising programs at schools and workplaces by introducing the "Wishmakers® At Work" and "Kids For Wish Kids®" programs to people in their local communities.
Office Volunteers
Volunteers help in the different Make-A-Wish offices (Pittsburgh, Erie, Pottsville, Punxsutawney, Wilkes-Barre, and York, PA ,and Charleston, WV) with mailings, phone calls, filing and other office support.
Airport Greeters
Volunteers assist in seeing wish families off at the airport at the start of their wish trips.
Public speaking
The Speakers' Bureau volunteers spread the word of our mission to groups, organizations and clubs.
Wish Ambassadors
An ambassador speaks with local community groups to let them know about the Foundation's mission and how they can help make wishes come true. They educate groups on how they can share the power of a wish® by referring kids they know who may qualify for a wish and by holding a fundraiser for the Foundation.
Spot Says… Friends and family are our biggest referral source. Do you know a child who might qualify?
